Option 1:
Becoming a Learning Principal
Learning Forward will soon be adding to its “learning series” with the release of Becoming a Learning Principal. This text will outline what we believe are key characteristics and behaviors of principals who are “learning leaders” and “leaders of learning” in their schools. The book will also address the system elements that enable these types of principals to be the norm in a district or charter management organization. Participants in this session will receive a coupon for a copy of the book once it is released.
Frederick Brown, Deputy Executive Director
  Option 2:
Becoming a Learning System
Stephanie Hirsh will discuss strategies from the newly-updated Becoming a Learning System book that will help affiliates in their efforts to implement sustained, standards-based professional learning grounded in a cycle of continuous improvement. Together the group will discuss systems change research, adult learning, the attributes of a comprehensive learning system, responsibilities of key stakeholders, and steps toward establishing a vision for building toward a true learning system. Attendees will receive a copy of the updated book prior to the meeting.
Stephanie Hirsh
  Option 3:
Becoming a Learning Team

Tracy Crow will engage affiliate leaders in a discussion about Becoming a Learning Team, which is written for grade level and/or subject matter teams at the school level and has recently been updated to include a focus on the selection and effective use of high quality curriculum and instructional materials. The tools and protocols have applicability for these same teams across a district or a region, because of the focus on the five-stage learning cycle that promotes deeper learning, powerful lessons, appropriate assessments, and continuous improvement. Tracy will pay special attention to how affiliate leaders can utilize the book and its tools for book studies, workshops, and other affiliate activities. Participants will:

·         Develop a deeper understanding of the learning cycle and the five stages;

·         Discuss implications for their work in schools;

·         Develop an agenda for a book study and determine appropriate uses by an affiliate;

·         Consider other key ideas for supporting affiliate members.
