Strategic Plan

Learning Forward's Board of Trustees adopted an updated strategic plan that includes beliefs, mission, vision, and strategic priorities at the 2012 Annual Conference in Boston. This plan will guide the work of the organization for the coming years as it works to achieve a vision where Every educator engages in effective professional learning every day so every student achieves.

Beliefs
  1. Effective professional learning is fundamental to student learning.
  2. All educators have an obligation to improve their practice.
  3. More students achieve when educators assume collective responsibility for student learning.
  4. Successful leaders create and sustain a culture of learning.
  5. Improving student learning and professional practice requires ongoing systemic and organizational change.

Learning Forward advances educator effectiveness and student results through standards-based professional learning.

Strategic Priorities Overview
Learning Forward's recently revised Standards for Professional Learning define the elements essential to educator learning that leads to improved practice and better results for students. Learning Forward's strategic plan is designed to advance the standards both nationally and internationally. Working simultaneously to serve the members of the organization and influence the wider education field, Learning Forward will focus on the three priority areas below over the next seven years.

PRIORITY AREA 1: Leadership and Practice
Learning Forward will strengthen the capacity of classroom, school, and system leaders to advance effective professional learning.

  • Leading Goal: By 2020, 10,000 education leaders who participate in effective professional learning will demonstrate significantly improved practice and increased student learning.


PRIORITY AREA 2: Impact and Accountability
Learning Forward will increase the capacity of educators to measure and document the outcomes of professional learning.

  • Leading Goal: By 2020, 1,000 schools and organizations worldwide will demonstrate the relationship between professional learning and improved results for educators and students.


PRIORITY AREA 3: Advocacy and Policy
Learning Forward will increase the demand for effective professional learning.

  • Leading Goal: By 2020, 100,000 individuals will advocate for or change policies and practices that advance effective professional learning.
