Professional Learning Teams:
Building and Sustaining Powerful Collaborative Learning

November 2 – December 4, 2009

Join NSDC Author Anne Jolly for a five-week program designed to assist teacher leaders, principals, and other school-level staff in developing, sustaining, and supporting effective professional learning teams. Jolly, a national PLT consultant and former Alabama Teacher of the Year, provides a step-by-step guide to establishing learning teams that focus on student success through the education and learning of adults.
From planning and implementation, to guiding successful team meetings, to setting data-based goals and measuring team progress toward those goals, program participants will be given practical tools and tips that equip them to not only develop and sustain effective PLTs, but also to become advocates for collaborative professional learning in their schools and beyond.

Participants will receive a copy of Jolly's book, Team to Teach: A Facilitator’s Guide to Professional Learning Teams.

Educators who complete this program will:
  • Understand evidence supporting professional learning teams as an effective method of improving professional learning.
  • Articulate a vision for PLTs and establish the structures necessary for team members to be effective collaborative learners.
  • Establish clear norms and expectations that create a positive team culture and working environment.
  • Lead team discussions centered on the development of data-based, teacher-focused goals.
  • Practice using facilitation tools both individually and through group activities with fellow program participants.
  • Develop the skills necessary to facilitate productive conversations, build and maintain team momentum, and measure progress.
  • Engage school-level stakeholders in conversations regarding roles and responsibilities in supporting PLTs.
