Learning School Alliance Facilitator Job Description
NSDC, through a grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, is expanding its Learning School Alliance (LSA) network and is adding up to 30 high schools to the network. In 2009, NSDC launched the LSA, a collection of 47 individual schools committed to collaborative professional learning with educators in their school and those in other schools around the country and in Canada.
We are seeking individuals with a proven track record in professional development practice, facilitation skills, and leading collaborative networks to serve as LSA facilitators for these additional schools. Individuals with a background in high school administration and teaching will be given first consideration. This is a contracted position. Facilitator/Coaching Skills
- Exhibit knowledge of NSDC standards and philosophy of professional development and learning
- Have a background in supervising, mentoring and coaching schools in the process of creating, maintaining, or enhancing professional learning communities
- Utilize excellent written, oral, and listening skills
- Utilize technology in the daily work, virtual conferences, and other technology- based activities (text messaging, document uploading/transfer, twitter, etc.)
- Understand and utilize adult learning theories
- Utilize online and face-to-face facilitation skills
- Exhibit ability to create a school community predicated on strong relationships and trust
- Understand, analyze, and use data in the continuous improvement process
- Prove ability to take risks, think on feet, and adapt to dynamic situations
- Work effectively with individuals as well as teams
Facilitator/Coach Duties and Assignments
- Assist schools in evaluating the status of professional learning in their school and designing a plan that defines and monitors clear benchmarks for school progress on school-wide outcomes through professional learning
- Choose and deliver appropriate coaching tools, interventions, and services, aligned with NSDC Standards and theory of change both in online and offline settings to assigned schools
- Complete training on the use of the NSDC Becoming A Learning School book and NSDC Learning Exchange E-Learning Platform
- Coordinate monthly webinar learning opportunities and support for approximately 10 schools
- Assist schools in designing learning for adults and students to ultimately raise student achievement
- Use the NSDC Learning Exchange, LSA Community tools, and NSDC resources appropriately
- Solicit feedback from LSA participants and facilitate monthly discussions in the LSA Community Discussion Forums
- Coordinate LSA presentations during NSDC Summer and Annual Conferences
- Communicate to lead consultant via monthly online meetings and written reports
- Assist LSA schools to enroll in the NSDC Learning Exchange and LSA Community
- Work collaboratively with NSDC staff and NSDC affiliates
- Assist schools in administering the SAI and IC
- Monitor LSA school commitment requirements
- Attend two NSDC Summer and two NSDC Annual Conferences
- Commit approximately 30 hours per month to face-to-face, online meetings, conference calls, electronic exchanges, and etc.
