Peg Smith receives Learning Forward's Susan Loucks-Horsley Award

DALLAS—December 7, 2010—The Susan Loucks-Horsley Award honors the memory of Susan Loucks-Horsley by recognizing an individual who exemplifies Susan's commitment to instill efficacy in others, collaborate across boundaries, and sustain impact on the field of professional development. This year Learning Forward is delighted to present this award to Peg Smith, an individual who is committed to raising the standard of professional development in mathematics.

Smith is a professor in the Department of Instruction and Learning in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh and a Senior Scientist at the university's Learning Research and Development Center.

Early in her career, Smith collaborated directly with Susan Loucks-Horsley examining professional development models that enhance professional development for mathematics teachers.

Over the past decade Smith has led the way in using narrative cases for mathematics professional development.

Learning Forward presented the prestigious award at its 2010 Annual Conference in Atlanta, Ga. Learning Forward's annual awards program recognizes individuals for their commitment to improving student achievement through effective professional learning.
