Learning Forward's Contribution to the Field Award Hargreaves has expanded our understanding of educational leadership, and what works in school improvement through his extensive research on teachers and education systems around the world. He is the Thomas More Brennan Chair in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of Educational Change, as well as Visiting Professor at the Institute of Education in London. "Andy Hargreaves never fails to help me see familiar things in new and empowering ways," said Dennis Sparks, Learning Forward Emeritus Executive Director. "He is an original thinker, and I am always eager to see where his most recent turn of mind has taken him. Andy's continuous stream of contributions has expanded the boundaries of our field and immeasurably enriched our work." Reeves connects research-based insights on leadership, assessment, standards, and accountability to the day-to-day work of schools striving to improve student learning. He is the founder of The Leadership and Learning Center, which provides professional development services, research, and solutions for educators and school leaders. Learning Forward Deputy Executive Director Joellen Killion said, "Doug's belief in the power of professional learning is evident in his writing and speaking about school improvement. As someone who asks difficult questions and seeks to answer them with evidence, Doug demonstrates that there are no silver bullets to improve schools, only certain conditions, hard work, and the desire to succeed." Learning Forward presented the prestigious award at its 2010 Annual Conference in Atlanta, Ga. Learning Forward's annual awards program recognizes individuals for their commitment to improving student achievement through effective professional learning.
